WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE FOR ADULTS AND TEENS (girls 13+ yrs)

This is our premier workshop. We address the alarming statistics of sexual violence in our society, and take a common sense approach to becoming a “bad target”. Through awareness tips and avoidance tactics, women learn to exude the confidence necessary to cut off an attack before it happens. At each stage, participants practice boundary-setting exercises and learn to control adrenaline overload. We discuss, demonstrate and practice an arsenal of easy-to-learn techniques that can be used to survive and escape in physical confrontations. We also cover topics such as social and workplace safety, weapon use and safety, and overcoming psychological barriers to self-protection.

COLLEGE SAFETY: SELF-DEFENSE AND EMPOWERMENT ON CAMPUS (high school and college students)

This has quickly become our most popular workshop. Women on college campuses face heightened risk of sexual assault due to a number of factors. This class examines the current state of campus safety, identifying the unique risk factors women face in the first months of college, the highest risk period in a woman’s life. We review sexual assault statistics and discuss college-specific topics such as social and dating safety, rape facilitation drugs and confident self-presentation. Through discussion and interactive exercises, participants build skills to recognize and enhance inner strength, as well as practical tips to use in the event of an attack.

SAFE TEENS: BOUNDARY-SETTING AND SELF-DEFENSE (girls 12-19 yrs)

This workshop explores issues surrounding everyday boundary-setting and conflict avoidance. At each stage of assault, there is in opportunity to set a firm boundary and, in many cases, avoid escalation. In addition to avoidance techniques, we discuss teen-specific topics such as dating and social safety, everyday situational awareness and confident self-presentation. Through discussion and interactive exercises, participants build skills to recognize and enhance inner strength, as well as practical tips to use in the event of an attack.

GIRL POWER: FITNESS, BODY IMAGE AND SELF-ESTEEM (girls 10-15 yrs)

This workshop explores personal, social and cultural influences on health, body image and self-esteem. Through discussion and interactive exercises, participants build skills to recognize and enhance inner strength, as well as practical tips to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle.
